Dress code in office varies depending on your work place, the HR policies or the nature of the job. We have four categories and I will tackle two on today’s blog.

Formal/executive/ boardroom dress code

This is mostly in law firms, audit firms or a work place that entails executive board meetings every so often. It is also the best dress code for interviews in a workplace that you are not sure of their policies. The most ideal is a well cut skirt or pants suit in conservative colors i.e. black, grey, navy blue or brown. A white or blue buttoned up shirt with a collar will do. The shoes should be closed with a comfortable heel in neutral colors. Minimize on accessories and be conservative with the hair on the style and the color. The nails should be neat with a clear or neutral polish. The skirt should just be an inch above the knee and you can throw in a tie while at it. Basic (minimal) make up completes the look.

Business/professional dress code

This is a bit dressed drown compared to the formal code and one can infuse a bit of personality in the suits. You can break the suit or lose the coat but the shirt remains very official with a collar. You can play more with colors but they have to be toned down. You can experiment with patterns and can play around with accessories but they should remain subtle. The hair and nail colors remain conservative. This is most ideal for bankers especially if working in the back office. Make up remains subtle.

On the blog I have a business dress code with straight pants, white shirt with cuff links, grey block shoes and minimal accessories. My hair is too experimental and not ideal for a very official workplace or interviews as it would appear to be too bold.
