Inspirational words don’t always come from reading the bible or in church. They could be a lyrics to a song, words from a wise person, actions from a small child, own life experiences or the actions of a stranger. If you are keen and attentive, you could learn a thing or two. So i was driving to work today and listening to McGraw – Humble and Kind and i just loved the words, quite the reminder we need every so often. It goes something like this, in parts:
Go to church because mama says so, visit grandpa every chance that you get, it won’t be wasted time, always stay humble and kind. Hold the door, say please, say thank you. Don’t steal, don’t cheat, don’t lie. I know you’ve got mountains to climb but always stay humble and kind. When the dreams you are dreaming come true, when the work you put in is realized, let yourself feel the pride but always stay humble and kind. Don’t hold a grudge or chip because bitterness keeps you from flying. Know the difference between sleeping with someone and sleeping with someone you love. ‘I love you’ ain’t a pick up line. Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you , and when you get to where you are going, don’t forget to turn around and help the the next one in line.
Isn’t this just sweet to listen to?
On my blog, got some high waist black jeggings, slim fit and full length that have slits on the knees. They can be worn casually with a top and flats or dressed up in heels and blazers; whichever way you prefer.

August Holiday is almost over and we are about to go back to our routine life. Routine being: wake up, drop kids to school, go to work, check on the shop, run a million errands, go back home to some elated kids with unending stories of how their days were, then another busy session of running around the house doing this or that and before you know it, it’s midnight. Press REPEAT. You have probably come across the meme written ‘Don’t grow up, it’s a trap!’ Well, too late I just turned a year older and the more you grow, the more the work, expectations, schedules, deadlines and so many other things that entail an adult life. Life is quite intriguing and each stage has its hurdles and perks in good measures.
So before we go back to the routine, we (me and my kids) took some time to visit our beautiful coast line and escape from the cold Nairobi weather. As usual it’s all eat, swim, sleep, laze around and repeat. The kind of food that gets you excited for the first two days after which you miss your usual ‘ugali na sukuma’. The kids as usual don’t want to leave the pool all day. The monkey population in this area is higher than the humans which is fascinating at first until you start communicating to them like: ‘high buddy, get off my seat’. The foreign tourists still pulling their crazy stunts which include going with their toddlers who are in the ring floaters to the sea to jump over the huge waves during the high tides, something I wouldn’t attempt to do even with a floater on. The weather is warm enough though rainy in the afternoons, giving me a perfect excuse to nap with the kids. The beaches are sandy, white and beautiful as ever! My friends and their kids are just adorable!
While at it, I thought of doing a photo shoot at the beach and this is how it went; I am really getting used to this photos business.
There’s a wedding coming up and you have no idea what you shall wear. The stress is galore. Weddings nowadays have become a showbiz where we get to see all sorts of fashion. You have to look the part. It could be a traditional ceremony where you are expected to appear as decent as possible but still have it! A friend’s child birthday maybe, and you know how the other parents rock on such events. The struggle to look dope is real, worse still, if you hate hopping shop to shop, to shop.
What you need in your closet are several ‘decent’ dresses, what we call must haves. Something that your grandmother will be proud to see you in, if she is like mine who believes in almost full body coverage with at least 2cms of space between the skin and fabric.
The dress doesn’t have to be boring, stick to the trend. The mistake we make is that we only rush to buy when the need arises and end up settling for less than would have been achieved if earlier planned. Have several pieces in your closet awaiting an occasion, and you can accessorize them differently to suit different functions.
Here is one of my favorites! It is a Cinderella kind of dress with pockets. It is best worn with a strappy black shoe or any shoe that stands out but subtle to avoid competing for attention with the dress.
Does it get any glamorous than this?
That moment when you walk into a bookshop, ask for a diary and take your time choosing one, never mind that we are in July and the year is half gone; well, at least you get to buy it at half price. Thing is, it should have been bought way earlier on but really, it’s never too late for anything, right?
It’s never too late to start or stop, never too late to get in or leave. There’s no perfect timing for anything, any timing could be perfect. To me the important thing is to do it, to keep moving, to keep walking, to keep trying and re trying.
Just like that vendor on the street who hopes there will be a passerby interested in what he is selling and with a few loose coins to spend. Hoping that the kanjo askaris won’t come harassing him and pack him up in their trucks; but he won’t stop trying or starting all over again.
From how I see it, all you need is to wake up and start…from whatever point…
Talking of stepping, here are some of the boots collection available in our shop which comes in handy especially in this cold season.
Keep your feet warm!
It’s been a minute! Whoa! Where did time just go? Feels like a decade since i last blogged. Life moves so fast when you are an adult, a busy one for that. Isn’t life such a mystery; back in the days when we were young, free, full of energy with all the time in the world with no money to spend. Now we are at the point where we can spare a few coins but you hardly have any energy or time to spend. You blink your eyes and its night already!
I love track suits wear, and no, i don’t gym much, i actually don’t gym at all. They are just comfortable to be in, with the elastic soft material soothing to the skin. It’s the kind of outfit to wear indoors or when you need to run short distance errands. I would also comfortably do a road trip or hikes in them . Sport shoes are more ideal for this kind of wear but i prefer loafers given that the outfit doesn’t serve as a gym wear for me.
I have them available in white, black, blue and grey, in our newly opened shop along wood avenue in kilimani.
